Anyone who knows me knows I'm not judgmentalThe reason I found this to be interesting is because throughout the article he makes several 'judgments'. He implicitly makes judgments about people who oppose gay marriage as being people who will be looked back upon in the future as crazy. He makes judgments about when religion turns to hate and when he will disassociate himself from that. He makes judgments about people who believe religions are not all the same, and that Jesus is the only way to God.
So my plea to Guy Sebastian and others who want to claim they are not judgmental is this. Please stop judging me or please stop saying that you're not judgmental. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Chris, in your view what in this article suggests he has abandoned Orthodox Christianity? How are you using Orthodox here?
ReplyDeleteHey Joey. I guess I was using Orthodox in the sense of the kinda creedal, Jesus as Lord and the only way to the Father, sense of the word.
ReplyDeleteI would say lines such as these:
"People thought I had a certain set of beliefs, which were very narrow, which is the complete opposite of who I am.
People were putting me in this weird system of beliefs and judgments I didn't belong in."
I've gone from a place where I was told there was one way and only one way, to being more in a place where I don't think anyone has the right to say what they believe is more important or more significant.
And his statement about believing in the fundamentals of God also sounds more deist than Christian theism to me.
Whether you agree with me or not on the 'orthodox' label, I'd say the point about the whole judgmental thing is still valid.
For sure, I was just curious about orthodox. As I read the article I realized he was pretty vague about some stuff but that could just be the medium. I found his comments about having faith in one God rather than belief interesting. I agree with how you've defined orthodox here.
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering, that's all. Hope you're well, mate.
