So, in the next month or two i'm preaching a sermon on dating...
I put my hand up for this one so I could spend some time working out what I think.
My current strategy is to read two books... I Kissed Dating Goodbye and Boundaries before Marriage. Then i'll work take the best of both worlds... and try and see what the bible says. Which will be difficult because it doesn't say much explicitly...

Two words - "Mark Driscoll" - but I'm sure you've seen/heard his dating sermon already.
ReplyDeleteah, he is indeed a legend.
ReplyDeleteI've heard him do one of his Q&A via text message things on some issues related to dating a few weeks back, but haven't actually got to his actual sermon.
Will check it out
You should check out "I Gave Dating a Chance." It was kind of written in response to I Kissed Dating Goodbye.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh!! I log in to see how my blogging friends are going and I read this?!?! :-D I'm busy reading "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" for the 2nd time (cos I couldn't remember anything from the first time) and I'd love to hear what you think of it! It has really spoken to my heart and I was actually just praying this afternoon that i'd find someone who had read it to get a second opinion! I think it's really good.. awesome in fact, but the only people I have spoken to who know of the book don't speak too highly of it..
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I hope you're well Chris, you're in my prayers often :-)
Your sister in Christ,
Sam
I think in the case that the bible doesn't say much its good to follow the philip jensen guidance and the voice of God formular. that is whats whats commanded in the bible- must do this. whats wise - its a good idea to did this but you haven't sinned if you don't. doesn't matter- your choice. eg building a friendship before you go out is a wise idea but not commanded in the bible there for should be commanded as law as that is legalism. hope this helps
